Important Eligibility Changes for Funding

The FACTOR Board of Directors has made a significant change to the eligibility requirements surrounding MAPL and CANCON.

MAPL Criteria

The components which make up the criteria for Canadian Content (CANCON) are: Music, Artist, Production, and Lyrics (MAPL). Two parts must be 100% Canadian to qualify as Canadian Content (CANCON).

FACTOR Policy Surrounding MAPL

Prior, FACTOR policy stated that to qualify for funding, the Artist and Production components of MAPL must always be Canadian.

Changes To Policy

Effective July 1st, 2009 the new FACTOR policy states:

*The Artist must be Canadian.

* At least one other part of the sound recording, Music, Lyrics or Production must be Canadian.

Applicants should be reminded that any costs incurred in non-Canadian Facilities or by non-Canadians will continue to be deemed ineligible for FACTOR funding.

"I believe that the Board's decision to make this adjustment to its criteria will enable artists to make the best choices for their projects", says Heather Ostertag, FACTOR's President and CEO. "It will also better serve the needs of Canada's Private Radio Broadcasters."
